You Can’t Afford NOT to be on Social Media

Social media is a very valuable tool when used correctly, allowing businesses to interact with customers on their terms. Social media gives businesses the unique opportunity to respond to customers at any moment – when they need help, when they have something good to say, when they need a problem corrected.

Many argue that it is hard to track return on investment (ROI) of social media, which may have been the case in the past, but with new tools, it has become much easier to see what kind of return one is getting for the time and marketing dollars invested.

However, even if you aren’t satisfied with tracking methods – or your results -you still need to remember one thing about social media that many people forget: even if your business isn’t active on social media, people may still be talking about it on social media.

We suggest that all companies perform what we call a “Brand Review” of their business on social media. Visit several social media platforms and search for your business. You might be surprised what you find.

For instance, there is a publishing company called Red Sage. There is also a band, a man who lives in North Dakota and another who lives in California, and a spa and salon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania… all by the name of Red Sage.

In our own mini brand review, we didn’t find anything to alarm us, but we could have. Disgruntled customers take complaints to social media with a speed seldom seen. We aren’t willing to take that chance, and neither should you.

You probably think you don’t have the time, money or knowledge to be on social media, but the truth is, you can’t afford NOT to be on social media.
